HTC Hero getting Android 2.0

HTC has announced that its popular Hero device will be getting an update to the Android 2.0 operating system

Published on Oct 30, 2009

The HTC Hero will be getting a ROM update for Android 2.0, codenamed Eclair, but a time scale has not been given.

The announcement came directly from HTC as well as being spread via its official Twitter account:

“Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero.”

Carrier-specific versions of the Hero will also qualify for the update, although the time scale for each will vary according to the networks and their co-operation with HTC. There's no info on whether other Android HTC handsets will get the same treatment though.
