Google Maps Navigation officially announced

Google has announced the introduction of a turn-by-turn navigation service called Google Maps Navigation

Google Maps Navigation has been announced by Google.
The service will likely pose a significant threat to traditional SatNav manufacturers and, from what we've seen of it so far, offers functionality well-beyond the current competition.
With traditional, satellite and street level views, the software certainly doesn't fail to impress, but it's not all eye-candy. For example, using street level view (where available) will show you what the route actually looks like as well as telling you exactly which lane you need to be in.
The search function is connected to Google's cloud and allows you to search the whole internet to find destinations and POIs of your choice. Better than that though, it seems to respond well to “plain English” searches via either text or voice control, the latter allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel.
Initially at least, Google Maps Navigation will be available solely on Android 2.0 devices and restricted to the US, although we don't think that will be the situation for too long.
And the best part? It's free.
