Comes With Music celebrates 1st birthday

The Nokia Comes With Music service is celebrating its first birthday by giving early adopters an extended free service
Published on Oct 15, 2009
Nokia users that got in early on the Comes With Music action are being rewarded for their loyalty by being gifted 3-months free downloads.
Nokia doesn't specify exactly how early an adopter you need to be to qualify, instead settling on the far less specific “among the first to sign up”.
Recipients of the free 90 days service will be notified by email “detailing the complimentary 90 day extension, so if you think that could be you keep an eye on your inbox.”
Despite the upbeat tone of the announcement over on the Nokia Conversations blog, it comes amongst news of Nokia's first quarterly financial loss in more than a decade and a less than glowing report on MusicAlly.com that details lacklustre subscription numbers for the music service.
The article claims that in July 09 the service only had 107,000 users worldwide, with the majority of those (32,728) being located in the UK.
In second place on the uptake list is Australia with around 23,000 – which doesn't seem so bad considering that it launched down-under more than six months after the UK launch.
Indeed, even the celebratory notice on the official page notes that “it didn’t start out that rosy, with lots of folk not really certain about what Comes With Music offered but we never shied away from the important education process that is needed in order to fathom that you can download and forever-keep as many tracks as you like.”
Whether or not the Comes With Music's future looks rosy with Spotify's planned expansion on the cards is yet to be seen.
