O2 has launched the eco-friendly Sony Ericsson Naite, which is available from free on selected tariffs

Published on Oct 7, 2009

The Sony Ericsson Naite is now available to purchase from O2 on both prepay and pay monthly tariffs.

Sony Ericsson claims that the Naite has a 15 percent reduced carbon footprint in comparison to a standard mobile, but aims to provide green credentials without the sacrifice of functionality.

The list of eco-highlights include the Naite's largely recycled construction, low-power charger, reduced packaging and inclusion of an on-device, rather than paper, manual.

Specs for the candybar GreenHeart device include a 2.2-inch LCD display, 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and microSD expansion to bolster the 100MB internal memory.

There's nothing as luxurious as Wi-Fi or GPS on board but the Naite does come with 3G connectivity as well as full music and video playback.

The Naite is available from free on 18-month contracts of £19.58, or £14.69 on 2-year deals. Customers looking for the prepay version of the handset will be able to get their hands on it for just under £100.

As an added bonus, O2 is offering customers that purchase the Naite a £150 gift incentive; ranging from “a hamper of ethically sourced foods” or “an overnight stay in an ecologically friendly hotel” to providing primary education funding for a child in Bangladesh for a year, or tree planting in Ethiopia.
