Microsoft will be introducing its Zune music and video service to mobile phones, but couldn't divulge when it will go live.
The info came directly from Jose Pinero, Microsoft's Director of Communications for TV, Video and Music, who revealed that it sees the Zune's future as platform, not device, orientated.
The report at ZDNet revealed that Microsoft seems intent on the Zune service going mobile, “Our next step is mobile phones but we haven’t talked about a timeline for when that will happen”.
We're guessing that it will launch first on Microsoft Windows powered mobiles, but Pinero certainly gives the impression that it will eventually end up on a whole range of platforms.
Interestingly, it seems Microsoft is even considering opening up its Zune Pass services on Apple devices in the future; that's right folks, Microsoft's Zune Pass on an iPhone - whether or not Apple will allow this to happen is another matter.
For now, the Zune service has its sights firmly set on porting to the XBOX360, offering up its music and video services to millions of XBOX Live subscribers.
