The Garmin G60 Nuvifone SatNav phone has finally been given a US release date on AT&T

Published on Sep 30, 2009

Garmin and AT&T have announced that the Garmin-Asus Nuvifone will hit the shelves on Sunday 4 October 2009.

The handset has been brewing for a while now, so we're hoping that the SatNav specialist won't let us down. On board will be a 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen display, 3-megapixel snapper, 3G connectivity and 2GB of internal memory – it also supports microSD..

Clearly hoping to trade on its navigation functions, the G60 Nuvifone has gone all out; turn-by-turn navigation, geo-tagging, millions of Points Of Interest (POIs), and a windscreen/dashboard mount for in-car use, are all standard out of the box.

Also present is a nifty little feature called “Where Am I?”, which will tell you the nearest address, intersection, hospital, police station or fuel station – it'll also offer up your exact longitude and latitude.

We can all be a little forgetful at the best of times, so we're pleased to hear that Garmin has added a feature that remembers where the handset was when last removed from the in-car mount – particularly useful in sprawling crowded car parks, or unfamiliar ground.

With strong SatNav and PC credentials, the pairing of Garmin and Asus is looking to take on the current crop of highly functional smartphones, had it launched soon after it first appeared nearly 2 years ago, it would have had a far easier task on its hands.

If you're interested in the G60, it will be available in-store and online for $299 on a 24-month contract, after $100 rebate.
