Acer Android A1 pre-order leaks

A pre-order page offering Acer's Android-powered A1 handset has been spotted online

Published on Sep 28, 2009

Acer's upcoming A1 handset has popped up online alongside an intriguing spec-list and some tentative pricing.

The handset has been on the cards for a while now, so to see the page go live over at Expansys doesn't come as a huge surprise to us; particularly given Expansys' predilection for leaking the juicy details before the official word comes down.

Amongst the usual smartphone offerings of HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS and 5-megapixel camera, there are a few potentially more exciting specs nestled away; namely the inclusion of the unreleased Android 2.0 OS codenamed Eclair, and a 768MHz Qualcomm 8250 processor.

Until now all Android devices have launched with 528MHz processor under the hood, but with apps becoming more popular, not to mention demanding, it's good to hear that there are some beefier options on the way.

The release date is currently unknown, but if the system is indeed running Android 2.0 then the A1 might not arrive until just before Christmas; current speculation on the 2.0 launch pits it in December.

We've got better news on pricing though, it's being listed at a very reasonable €389 SIM-free, although we'd expect to see it for free on appropriate pricing plans when we get official word from UK carriers.

*Update – It seems all the interest has caused Expansys to pull the page, for now.
