ITG Windows XP Phone pre-order now live

In Technology Group has launched an English pre-order page for its Windows XP toting mobile phone

The first Windows XP-based mobile phone is now available to pre-order directly from Chinese manufacturer ITG.

The handset was first glimpsed in June at Computex 09, but we've heard little of the AMD-powered slider phone since.

The pre-order page can be found at xpPhone.com, but you'll need a leap of faith if you intend to pick one up now, as the device is currently listed without a retail price.

Significant specs present on the xpPhone include:

  • Windows XP operating system
  • 4.8-inch TFT touchscreen display
  • 3G support
  • GPS
  • Sliding Qwerty keyboard
  • Free video calling via Skype/MSN/QQ chat

Although region availability is unspecified, the website proudly proclaims that the phone supports “the global three major 3G standards”, suggesting that the xpPhone has aspirations beyond its locale.

The potential for a handset running the XP operating system is obvious; a huge software catalogue, and the ability to upgrade to future connectivity standards (such as 4G and LTE) is never going to hurt a new player in the marketplace.

Our only reservation is whether the included AMD processor will be able to handle the demands of a full-fat XP on a touchscreen mobile device.

There's no word on pricing, or an actual release date just yet, but if you're intrigued and willing to put up an unspecified amount of cash you can pre-order one now over at the official xpPhone product website.
