The long awaited Garmin-Asus Nuvifone finally has an official launch date of the end of the month for Taiwanese carrier Chunghwa

Published on Aug 20, 2009

The navigation-focused Garmin-Asus M20 is all set for an end of August launch according to an official statement from one Taiwanese carrier.

Naturally, given the Garmin branding, the M20 Nuvifone will be well-versed in getting you from A to B in an efficient manner, but will also have some of the other smartphone essentials like HSDPA, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, and Wi-Fi.

On the downside, we're not too blown away by the inclusion of the now ageing Windows Mobile 6.1 OS, even if it has had a little tweaking.

The Taiwanese network Chunghwa will likely be offering the SatNav phone at heavily subsidised rates, and it will probably need to with the launches of the iPhone 3GS and HTC Hero happening at the same time.

Pricing details are unknown for the M20, but it may be an uphill struggle for the device, whatever the price.

While the M20 was being developed, major mapping companies were already beginning to launch their own software on various mobile platforms, meaning that the market is already a little saturated with SatNav-capable handsets.

We'll bring you details of a launch closer to home just as soon as we have them.
