Nokia 6212 classic delivers tap-to-share NFC technology
NFC has been developed to make it simple to interact with other devices, share content and make payments for good and services
Nokia has announced the 6212 classic, its first Near Field Communication mobile, offering easy sharing of content, and tap-to-pay functionality
Nokia has announced the 6212 classic, its first mobile to include Near Field Communication (NFC) technology that enables users to exchange content, get information, make payments, and connect with other devices with just a simple tap of the phone.
The 3G-equipped Nokia 6212 classic debuts NFC technology in a slimline candybar handset design that includes a standard set of Nokia mid-range features including a 2-megapixel camera and music player.
NFC has been developed to make it simple to interact with other devices, share content and make payments for good and services. Users can swap contact details or content such as images or video between NFC-enabled phones by simply tapping the devices, or get content such as audio files, weblinks or contact information by tapping NFC-enabled tags - for example, on ad posters, in stores, at information points, and so on.
NFC technology can be used to automatically open up applications on the phone, such as the web browser, radio or calenda. It can also be used to make payments and for applications such as virtual ticketing - using tap to go technology similar to Oyster cards on the London Underground. Secure credit card account transactions can be made with NFC tap-to-pay enabled services, using a phone loaded with account details.
In addition, NFC technology can be used for one-touch pairing of a phone with other devices, such as a Bluetooth NFC-enabled headset like the Nokia BH-210.
The 6212 classic is equipped with other Nokia mid-range 3G phone features including a 2-megapixel camera, a multi-fromat music player, and stereo FM radio, plus 3G video calling capability. MicroSD cards up to 4GB are also supported.
The Nokia 6212 classic is expected to launch in the third quarter of this year, priced at around €200 (£160) SIM-free.
