The Garmin-Asus G60 phone is finally ready to see a Taiwanese launch today, although pricing details are still as yet unannounced.
It certainly has been a long time coming but our wait for what started life as the Garmin G60, and later became the Garmin-Asus G60 (after a collaboration with the computer manufacturer was announced) isn't quite over yet.
Following today's launch in Taiwan, the next places to receive the handset will be Singapore and Malaysia, both of which are due to see a launch before September.
Details of the American and European release of the G60 Nuvifone were reiterated as being on track for the second half of 2009, which really isn't all that enlightening – although, with Asian releases now under way we'd be thinking sooner rather than later.
According to MobileBurn.com, the Garmin-Asus M20 is also due for release in some Asian markets by the end of August, although pricing details for this handset are as elusive as those of the G60.
One disappointing factor of both the M20 and G60 is that the Linux OS is a completely closed environment that doesn't provide any support for third-party apps, like Google Android or the iPhone.
