Palm Pre locked out of iTunes

Although the Palm Pre was previously able to sync with iTunes in the US, it's been blocked by Apple as part of the 8.2.1 update

Apple has blocked US users of the Palm Pre from using iTunes to sync their music.

Much fuss was made of the news that the Palm Pre would be able to link in with Apple’s iTunes software, especially as the phone is seen as an iPhone throne contender, but Apple has blocked the device from syncing with the software.

The latest 8.2.1 blocks the Palm Pre, meaning that iTunes fans that were thinking of the Pre as a ‘best of both worlds’ device will have to think again. Or think about buying an iPhone, if they fall so easily into Apple’s hands.

Before it was blocked, the Pre was able to masquerade as an iPhone in order to sync with iTunes, so the fact that it worked in the first place wasn’t exactly down to a harmonious agreement between Palm and Apple. The move is as sure to anger Pre fans as it is to put a smirk on the faces of iPhone users. Mind you, quite a few iPhone users wear as a smirk as their expression of choice anyway.

The Pam Pre is currently only available in the US but it should be hitting our shores later in the year.
