Panasonic to release Android phone

Panasonic may be entering the smartphone market, with a new Android phone rumoured for release in 2010

Published on May 22, 2009

Pansonic is planning to release an Android smartphone next year in Europe.

Keisuke Ishii, a powerful board member at Panasonic, said that the company is “seriously considering developing an Android-based handset and entering overseas mobile phone markets in fiscal 2010”.

It’s perhaps no great surprise to see Panasonic entering the smartphone market, especially when considering the predicted growth of the sector and Acer’s plunge into supporting smartphones. However, the choice of the Android platform is more telling.

Although support for Android seemed slow at the outset, it would appear to be growing, especially from the borders of the smartphone market- populated by the likes of Acer, and seemingly soon to be populated by Panasonic too.
