Yahoo gives smartphones the thumbs down

Yahoo has abandoned the development of Yahoo Mobile for smartphones in favour of focusing on improving the service for the iPhone and in its web form. A Beta of a smartphone application was being worked on, but this reprioritisation has put an end to its development.
This news doesn’t really tell us anything we didn’t know- that, despite the best efforts from the Android marketplace and the BlackBerry App World, the App Store remains at the top of the mobile applications tree.
Smartphone owners will still be able to use Yahoo Mobile via the web version, but if there are too many announcements like this, Android users might start looking at the iPhone with more envy than they used to.
