The Mozilla mobile browser known as Fennec has been released in Alpha form to developers and testers.
Fennec is currently being designed around the HTC Touch Pro for the Windows Mobile 6 platform, but no doubt we'll see other versions popping up soon after it gets a more general release.
Chief developer Jason Lassey also revealed that Fennec will be championing the OS approach in the mobile space too by becoming the only mobile browser to support add-ons, much like its fully-fledged brother Firefox.
If you were about to bounce off and try and download it, hold on for just a second. Lassey did warn that this was a developer release only, and that as such it is still pretty bug-heavy and laden with “performance problems”.
The development team is currently working on improvements to the way the program handles memory, which results in a more efficient process, as well as a completely rewritten CSS-based user interface, which Mozilla say will aid in porting the browser to other platforms.
