RIM's CEO has officially revealed details about the BlackBerry Storm 2

Published on May 11, 2009

The CEO of RIM, manufacturer of the BlackBerry has now confirmed the imminent launch of the Storm 2.

In an interview with Reuters, Jim Balsillie, Research in Motion's CEO said: "We see this very large and untapped consumer market".

The Blackberry Storm has been a run-away success over the last 12 months, so it is not surprising that RIM plan to release a new version.

Balsillie said: "that product was a huge success in terms of sales and adoption."

Analysts have confirmed that the current Curve model is the fastest selling smart phone on the market during the last quarter of this year surpassing Apple's iPhone.

RIM has made a real effort to try and capture more of the consumer market with more user-friendly phones with better multimedia functionality and it seems to be working.

Last month, RIM showed positive growth despite the bleak economic outlook, after analysts suggested that consumers would tighten their belts and this would have a knock-on effect on mobile phone sales. But this has failed to appear and RIM's future looks rosy.
