Jim Balsillie, the head-honcho of RIM, has confirmed that work on the follow-up to the BlackBerry Storm, the Storm 2 is under way.

We published tentative suggestions that the Storm 2 is headed for Verizon in the US in September and there are also suggestions that it may be coming to Vodafone in the UK in the same time frame.

If accurate the current rumours to-date have the Storm 2 pegged as coming with the previously omitted Wi-Fi capability and a 5-megapixel snapper to better serve the consumer market.

Despite largely being unloved in the UK the original Storm has done remarkably well in the US, “that product was a huge success in terms of sales and adoption”, said Balsillie.

The report on Reuters.com indicates that the revelation came during a presentation to analysts and investors concerning the push of its non-corporate business interests.

There was no official word from Balsillie regarding release dates, specs or pricing but we'll bring you the need-to-know info just as soon as we can.
