Microsoft project Pink smartphone rumours surface

Rumours of a possible Microsoft-branded mobile phone are circulating online

Published on Apr 29, 2009

News of a Microsoft mobile apparently destined for the Verizon network in the US has surfaced online.

There have been rumblings of a Microsoft device for some time now and the US-based company has so far insisted that it has no plans to release its own handset and that it was “committed to the licensing model.”

Whilst Microsoft is said to be designing this particular handset, the actual manufacture will apparently be going to a third-party.

These latest rumours come from the ubiquitous “people familiar with the matter” as reported by The Wall Street Journal Online yesterday.

Dubbed as yet another contender for the crown of iPhone slayer, the project known as Pink will be a multimedia focused device with an enhanced version of the Microsoft OS providing “new software capabilities.” We're expecting that there'll be a generous touchscreen display on board too

We have no doubt that with multimedia at the heart of the device the handset will be looking to capitalise on the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile that was announced at MWC in February of this year.

Naturally, we'll bring you any updates or official announcements as we hear them.
