Consumer electronics manufacturer Tatung has announced that it intends to enter the Chinese smartphone market

The number of Chinese smartphone manufacturers looks set to increase with the news that Tatung is planning to enter the market in the near future.
The report over at DigiTimes.com suggests that the Chinese manufacturer will be launching Android-based handsets, although the full product roadmap hasn't yet been finalised. This info comes straight from the Tatung horse's mouth, so to speak- company chairman Weishan Lin.
The fact that TatungInfoComm is one of Taiwan's 6 WiMAX licensee's will certainly not hurt the two affiliated companies in furthering their respective market positions.
Tatung is currently best known for producing consumer electronics such as TVs, PCs and home appliances. These are available in a number of countries, so there's hope yet that we may see another Android-supporting manufacturer shipping devices to the UK, although we doubt it will be any time soon.
