Garmin G60 and M20 sat-nav phones coming in June

Garmin and Asus have hinted that the G60 and M20 Nüvifones look like they will launch by the end of June this year

The long overdue Garmin G60 Nüvifone should finally make it onto our shelves in June this year along with the new M20 collaboration between Garmin and ASUS.

The better looking of the two devices is the sleek M20, a fact that actually surprised us a little in our original coverage of the collaboration between ASUS and Garmin.

The M20 Nüvifone will ship with a 2.8-inch display, 3-megapixel camera and should come in the choice of 4 or 8 GB of internal storage. A little disappointingly, it will come running the Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro operating system, but what really bugs us is the use of a proprietary mini-USB headphone socket.

The G60 is the more navigation-centric device of the two with its larger 3.5-inch anti-glare resistive touchscreen but it will come with largely the same feature set as the M20, including the same 3-megapixel snapper, accelerometer, and naturally a whole load of mapping and geo-tagging functionality.

Thankfully though the G60 will come with a standard 2.5mm headphone socket and will run a Linux based OS.

Both handsets will also come with a range of pre-installed apps including; Flight Status, Panoramio, Ciao and White Pages, as well the Garmin map software.

The G60 was originally due to launch early in 2008 but has suffered setbacks causing some to wonder if it would ever see the light of day considering the vastly different market conditions to those it would have entered into a year ago.

So it seems as if a release might actually take place this time, and in the not too distant future. Fingers crossed then.
