Nokia 5800 XpressMusic to get improved touchscreen

Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic will be getting a new and improved touchscreen from May

Published on Apr 17, 2009

Nokia are planning to replace the touchscreen panels on their 5800 XpressMusic mobile phones.

A source from a Taiwanese handset component supplier has told Digitimes that Nokia has put in an order for capacitive touch panels, similar to those used in Apple's iPhone, to replace the resistive panels currently used in the XpressMusic.

The Finnish phone company has already placed orders sizeable enough to produce 2-million 5800 handsets. Capacitive screens are seen to have better response times than their resistive counterparts, and also support multi-touch.

The new version of the phone will be released between May and June. We'll tell you more once further details are released.
