Microsoft: new Internet Explorer Mobile and Windows Mobile 6.1
The Windows Mobile 6.1 OS update brings more useful information easily to hand on Windows Mobile smartphone home screens
Microsoft is updating its smartphone operating system with new, improved Windows Mobile 6.1, while Internet Explorer Mobile is revamped too
Microsoft is promising a significantly improved version of its smartphone browser and a more consumer friendly experience on Windows Mobile smartphones, with the release of a new version of Internet Explorer Mobile and its latest Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system update.
The latest version of Internet Explorer Mobile adds the ability to see full web pages on mobile screens, as you would on a desktop PC, allowing you to scroll and zooming in on parts of the screen. It supports Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight and H.264 standards too, enabling users to view multimedia on smartphone web-browsers, such as video clips on YouTube and other sites.
The Windows Mobile 6.1 OS update brings more useful information easily to hand on Windows Mobile smartphone home screens, simplifying and speeding up access to information and enabling users to respond quickly to new messages, diary update, missed calls, and so on. Access to other features and functions, such as music and imaging, will be improved too. Message management has also been given a revamp, so users can flag, delete or move groups of messages and read text messages as threads..
Users setting up Windows Mobile 6.1 devices will also get an improved experience, with a new Getting Started Center helping users to easily configure features such as email, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity.
Microsoft has added enhancements for corporate IT departments too. System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 helps remote device management, with support too for Exchange Server 2007 SP1 for managing secure mobile email and remote synchronisation.
Microsoft expects Windows Mobile 6.1 to be introduced in products or be available for upgrades from the second quarter of 2008, while the new version of Internet Explorer Mobile will be available on new devices by the end of 2008.
