Vodafone users will be able to send and receive tweets via SMS following a deal with the social networking giant Twitter

Twitter has unveiled a partnership with Vodafone that allows users to receive Tweets by SMS.

The service lets you receive tweets from your followers as text messages, plus you can reply to their tweets by sending an SMS to 86444. It’ll doubtless be immediately attractive to Twitter addicts who have phones that aren’t particularly internet-capable, and it’s even free to use for the first few weeks after launch.

Kevin Thau, Director of Mobile Business Development at Twitter, seems to hint at hooking into the addictive nature of Twitter, saying “Twitter is the messaging network you didn't know you needed until you experience it over SMS.”

This is the first time Twitter has been accessible through a carrier via SMS in the UK and, considering the popularity of this social networking tool, we expect it’ll be a big hit.
