Rumours suggest that the Palm Pre is heading to O2 in the UK

Published on Mar 13, 2009

Rumours have surfaced suggesting the Palm Pre will be coming to O2 when it launches here later in the year.

Despite previous rumours that the Palm Pre may be launching on the Vodafone network, information posted over at palminfocenter.com seems to suggest that O2 has secured the handset for its UK release.

According to the site, several Spanish media outlets have confirmed that the handset will launch on the Telefónica's Movistar network in Spain and Latin America, with the Spanish release coming “before summer” which just about fits with our previously reported “first half of 2009” predicted release date.

As Telefónica is the parent company of the UK operator O2 this has led to speculation that it has managed to secure a network-exclusive deal here too.

There has been no official comment from Palm on the current rumours but if accurate it will certainly be a blow to the other UK networks that have been locked out of the lucrative iPhone market due to O2 exclusivity agreements.
