Nokia and Securitas are pairing up to offer a GPS-based security service named Safe-2-Go
Published on Jan 20, 2009
A GPS security service called Safe-2-Go has been announced as the result of a paring between Finnish mobile manufacturer Nokia and security specialists Securitas.
The mobile big brother app is comprised of four features; Assist, Find, Zone and Friends.
Assist allows the app to connnect to the Securitas alarm centre which can then locate the phone and get in touch with the trusted listed contacts.
The Find feature allows you to get the exact location of where your friends are at any given time.
Zone will send an SMS if someone enters or leaves a pre-defined area, such as a school or office building.
And finally, the Friends feature gives an overview as to where all your friends are located.
The Safe-2-Go service is set to launch first in Sweden by the end of Q2 with other european territories to follow.
With the obvious personal privacy implications, we're interested to see what the public reaction to this app will be, revered or reviled - you decide.
Expect to see it on a virtual shelf near you in the second half of this year, we have no word as yet whether this will be a subscription service or not, but we'll keep you informed.
