Samsung has announced that it is looking to release a Google Android handset sooner than originally planned.

Samsung representatives stated that "we are accelerating the development process for Google phones in order to meet the specific needs of local carriers".

Reports over at Techradar.com indicate that the handsets will be coming to the T-Mobile and Sprint networks in the US.

Whilst carriers for the UK market are unconfirmed, it seems possible that the handset will at least come to the UK on the T-Mobile network, much like the G1 Android phone.

With most of the major mobile manufacturers pledging to bring out an Android phone this year, and many leaked protoypes already doing the rounds, it is now a definite race to see who can make the biggest impact with the open-source OS.

We don't have any more details regarding a release date as yet, but we'll bring you the low-down when we know.
