Dell smartphone now “closer to reality”

An analyst for Kaufman Bros says that the rumoured Dell smartphone is now much “closer to reality”

Shaw Wu, analyst at Kaufman Bros. has hinted that Dell's rumoured smartphone is now looking much closer to becoming a reality.

Wu feels as if this may be a mistake for the Dell smartphone given the amount of attention garnered by its established competitors in the smart phone market such as RIM and Apple, or more recently Palm – all of these run a bespoke OS on unique hardware.

Given that the device has yet to be confirmed, specs are unsurprisingly thin on the ground but it is rumoured that the PC-manufacturer's first smartphone will run on the new version 7 of the Windows Mobile operating system.

We have no confirmed release dates, specs or pricing info yet but perhaps we'll hear more on this at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month.
