Palm has taken the wraps of its new Palm Pre handset at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The new Palm Pre was unveiled last night as Palm’s first phone to feature their new platform webOS.
The Pre is expected to contend the iPhone for the top-spot in touch-screen smartphones, and Palm hopes that webOS will give the edge over Apple in terms of user experience.
The sleek ergonomic design looks impressive and neat, and the large touch screen is intended to cater to everyday tasks such as making calls, web browsing, music and photos. However, when the keypad is revealed by sliding the phone, the Pre becomes the ideal for text messaging and emailing.
Other key features include:
- Wi-Fi
- Integrated GPS
- 3.1-inch touchscreen
- Slide-out QWERTY keyboard
- 8GB of internal user storage
- Light sensor
- Accelerometer
Unfortunately, no European release has been confirmed as yet, but the Palm Pre will be available in America within the first half of 2009 exclusive to network Sprint.
