Garmin plans two handsets for 2009

Garmin has revealed it will release the rumoured Nuvifone later in the year in addition to another GPS-focused handset that is as yet unnamed

SatNav company Garmin will be releasing two mobile phones this year, at least one of which will be running on the Android operating system.

From a company with a basis in SatNav and GPS technology we're guessing that both handsets will come with A-GPS as well as a host of other location based goodies.

We reported on the upcoming Nuvifone last year but there are precious few details that we can give you about the other unnamed handset.

What we can say is that it will be manufactured by Eee market-creator ASUS and will likely run on Android since Garmin joined the Open Handset Alliance last month.

No further specs or details are available at this time.

We're looking forward to seeing what this collaboration can bring to the table; a SatNav company and a laptop manufacturer joining forces to create a GPS-toting smartphone could bring some interesting results.
