Nokia officially launches Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
Nokia launches its worst kept secret; the 5800 XpressMusic
As everyone expected, and we predicted, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic launched today.
After a quick look, the handset looks to be a competitor to many of the touchscreen handsets out there at the moment, although we think juts having the Nokia branding will make it look highly attractive to the iPhone and Apple haters.
Here are some things we really like:
- 3.2-inch, 16-million colour touchscreen
- GPS
- Three input methods (stylus, finger and a randomly bundled plectrum)
- Powerful speakers
- Flash content compatible
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Up to 16GB memory
- Symbian OS with S60 5th edition interface
- Will be included in Comes With Music lineup, so you can get unlimited music downloads
- Only EUR279 SIM free
- Contacts and media bars (more below)
- TV out
But there are also a couple of things we're not really feeling either:
- Only a 3.2-megapixel camera
- No capacious built-in memory
- Isn't available until next year (Q1)
- 81MB internal memory
On the whole, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic looks good, mainly because of small added extras, like the fact you can quickly access media by tapping on the media bar placed on the top right hand side of the screen and view all communication with your four best mates via the contacts bar. The unlimited music downloads with Comes With Music is also an advantage over competitors, but built in memory would have been preferably over a microSDHC memory card slot. There are a couple of things that don't stand up to the iPhone's charm, but these will hopefully come in the near future. This is Nokia's first touchscreen handset, and in fact Symbian's, so we look forward to seeing the next device hopefully aimed at a more luxury market.
