RIM announces seven new BlackBerry smartphones
It's not just the Beckhams who are keen on the number seven - RIM has just announced that seven new BlackBerry blowers are on the way
Speaking at RIM's annual shareholders meeting, Co-CEO Jim Basillie announced that seven new BlackBerry handsets are on the way.
Basillie says they are due to launch 'in rapid succession' and he isn't mincing is words - they will be arriving within the next couple of months, according to website IntoMobile.
Confirming the dates found on three of the four retailers we investigated yesterday, one of the summer releases will be the BlackBerry 9900, which comes equipped with a 1.2GHz processor, a 2.8-inch touch display and BlackBerry 7.
The 9860, aka the Monza or Monaco, is likely to be one of the seven. It's fairly similiar to the 9900 in terms of the processor, a 5-megapixel camera and NFC capability.
Then there is likely to be the 9850, Torch 9810 and the Curve 9360. So far that's only five, so what are the other two missing devices?
There could be two variants on the phones listed above, or it could be the Bold 9790.
Until BlackBerry confirms to use the exact roadmap, there's not much else to say. From what we've seen, BlackBerry is improving its hardware with faster processors and the new BlackBerry 7 operating system.
And it has to, as RIM has taken a bit of a dent in recent times, with Android and iOS gnawing into its once loyal business userbase.
As Jim Basillie said at the meeting, as if to make absolutely clear he understands the severity of the situation, he said to shareholders:
'If there’s anything I can do to make you sleep better at night, I’ll do it.'
