Asus Padfone 2 Android Jelly Bean update rolls out
Asus' Padfone 2 is now being updated to Android Jelly Bean 4.1
Reportedly, the update is being pushed over-the-air and brings all the Butter UI optimisations and smoothness, Google Now features and other welcome interface tweaks we’ve come to know and love.
However, all of this is largely rendered moot by the fact that the Padfone 2 isn’t available in the UK yet, despite Asus’ assertions that it is due to arrive at some point.
Word on the grapevine has consistently been that carrier networks are ‘resistant’ to the idea of having two devices running off one data plan with one SIM card.
Naturally this is because it means half the profit for them, though honestly, when it results in the wholesale blocking of a pioneering new piece of versatile hardware it is very difficult to have sympathy with that line of thought.
Despite this, we would’ve thought the Padfone 2 would arrive unlocked at retailers anyway, but so far that hasn’t happened.
At the very least this should mean that if/when the Padfone 2 ends up in the UK if you buy one it should either have Jelly Bean already or the update will be ready and waiting when you power it on for the first time.
