How to customise the iPhone Home Screen

We show you how to customise the arrangement of icons on your iPhone's Home Screen and Dock - and how to create and use multiple Home Screens

The iPhone 3G makes it very easy for you to customise the layout of the Home Screen - or indeed to create multiple instances of the Home Screen.

You can also change the arrangement or the actual functionality of the four main shortcuts in the Dock at the bottom of the screen that are traditionally reserved for Phone, Mail, iPod and Safari.

To rearrange the icons on your Home Screen:

  1. Click and hold onto a Home Screen icon until they all start to wiggle
  2. You can click and drag icons to new locations - or into the main shortcut tray at the bottom of the screen
  3. Press the Home button to stop the jiggle and save your new icon layout

You can create up to nine Home Screens to accommodate all your Applications and Shortcuts.

To create additional Home Screens:

  1. When you are rearranging icons (see above) drag an icon to the right edge of the screen and a new screen will appear
  2. Drop your icon (and any more you want to transfer) onto the new screen and press the Home button to save your new arrangement
  3. You can navigate back and forth between screens by flicking your finger from right to left (and vice versa)
  4. The small dots at the bottom of the screen show how many screens you have and the highlighted dot indicates the screen you are on

Note: You can reset your iPhone 3G to the original default layout at any time by clicking on Settings, selecting General, clicking Reset and selecting Reset Home Screen Layout
