How to use iSight on the new iPad 3

We show you how to take photos on the new iPad’s impressive iSight camera

The new iPad features a greatly improved 5-megapixel iSight camera over that of the iPad 2. Make full use of the new iPad by following our guide to taking photos and 1080p HD videos with the new iPad 3.

Photos

  1. Select the Camera app from the home screen, the photo option is set as default.
  2. The rear facing camera will be load automatically.  You can switch to the front facing lens by taping the camera switch icon in the right hand corner of the screen.
  3. It’s easy to zoom in and out within the Camera app, use the same pinching gesture you would when using Safari. You can also set a grid by going into the Options menu.
  4. Once you have set up your shot, you can focus the camera on a particular area by simply taping on it. A blue square will appear and highlight the area you have selected.
  5. You are now ready to take a shot, tap on the circular camera icon that’s usually found on the right hand side of the screen or click the sleep/wake button to take the photo.

Videos

  1. Select the Camera app from the home screen, switch to video by using the photo/video toggle on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
  2. The rear facing camera will be the default camera. You can switch to the front facing lens by taping the camera switch icon in the right hand corner of the screen.
  3. Once you have set up your shot, you can focus on a particular area by simply taping on it. A square will appear and highlight the area you have selected.
  4. Click the record button which is usually found towards the right hand side of the screen. The record button will flash during a recording, to end your video simply tap it again.

Review both your photos and videos by opening the camera roll, you can do this by taping on the little square icon on the lower left end of the Camera app toolbar. It’s also possible to look over them via the Photos app found on the home screen.
