The 16GB iPad Mini has sold out in the UK, just hours after pre-orders opened

The 16GB version of Apple's iPad Mini has sold out just a couple of hours after going on sale.

Pre-orders started today on Apple's newest tablet, which is also available in 32GB and 64GB flavours.

Shipping went from November 2 (next Friday) to two weeks as the website struggled to keep up with orders.

The iPad Mini is available to pre-order for £269 for the 16GB version, £349 for the 32GB version and £429 for 64GB of storage.

The black version is still available in 32GB and 64GB for shipping on November 2, although we don't think it will be long until these sell out too.

The iPad Mini Cellular version will be available on Vodafone, O2, Orange and Three from late November. It will cost £369 for the 16GB version, 449 for 32GB and £529 for 64GB.

The iPad Mini was announced on October 23 as a rival to smaller tablets offered by Google, Amazon and Samsung. It features a 7.9-inch display, an ultra thin frame and Apple's A5 processor.

The iPad Mini was launched alongside the iPad 4 which is replacing the New iPad (iPad 3). The revamped larger model is available now with Apple's new A6X processor, Retina display and Lightning connector.
