Another major news source reaffirms iPad Mini rumour
A major US publication has added further weight to the iPad Mini rumours
Another major news source, the New York Times (NYT), has joined Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal with its own report alleging that Apple is creating a 7-inch iPad Mini.
The NYT report focuses on the emergence of a new tablet race between major manufacturers but during the piece the publication mentions ‘ a new tablet with a 7.85-inch screen that is likely to sell for significantly less than the latest $499 iPad,’ citing its own sources as ‘several people with knowledge of the project who declined to be named.’
As with earlier rumours, the emphasis is that Apple’s smaller tablet device will see a launch this year in time for Christmas. The iPhone 5 is expected to be announced on August 7 and it is possible the iPad Mini will be revealed alongside.
The iPhone 5’s launch was previously believed to be scheduled for October but it has been brought forward by two months and this may be due to Microsoft’s recent Windows Phone 8 announcement.
Some rumours suggest the iPad Mini will directly compete with Google’s recently launched Nexus 7 tablet as a budget model iPad. The Nexus 7 retails for £159 or £199 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively and some expect Apple’s product to meet that price tag.
If Apple is trying to deny market share to Google's Nexus 7 then it'll want to get the iPad Mini out as quickly as possible.
