How to set up email on the Apple iPad

We show you how to enter the email settings for Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, MobileMe and POP/IMAP accounts on the iPad

The iPad, like the iPhone is simple to set up for email.

We show you how to set up Exchange, POP3 and IMAP email on the iPad in this guide.

Exchange Email

  • Tap Settings
  • Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Select Add Account
  • Select Microsoft Exchange
  • Enter your email address, domain, username, password and a description that you wish to call your account (such as 'work')
  • If required, enter the Server name
  • Decide what you want to sync - Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Your account will now be configured

Google Mail/Yahoo Mail

  • Tap Settings
  • Select Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Select Add Account
  • Select Google Mail
  • Enter your name, email address, password and description (ie., 'home')
  • If your account is found, you'll be ready to send and receive emails straight away

MobileMe

  • First you'll need to set up a MobileMe account. Head to the MobileMe website to do this.
  • Once you've set up a MobileMe account, you'll need to set it up on your iPad. To do this, tap Settings from the homescreen
  • Head to Mail, Contacts, Calendars and then Add Account
  • Select MobileMe from the type of account
  • Enter your account information (name, username, password and account description). Tap Save
  • You can then select what you'd like to sync using your MobileMe account
  • You'll need to activate the 'Find my phone' feature in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings if you want to be able to find your phone when it's lost or stolen. From here, head to Fetch New Data and ensure it's turned on
  • If you already have contacts and calendars saved on your iPad, you can merge these with the MobileMe account - you'll be asked if you'd like to do this when you set the account up.

If you have any other kind of email to set up on your device, select Other from the Add Account settings menu and follow the instructions for Google/Yahoo Mail.

How to set up a sync schedule for your email

Once you've set up your email accounts, you can decide how often you want them to sync. To do this, select the email account you want to set up a synching schedule for.

You can change the Mail Days to Sync and Mail Folders to push from the bottom of the section.
