The highly anticipated iPhone 4S untethered jailbreak is finally here — and there’s even a video to prove it

An untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S should be arriving very shortly, following a successful hack by the Chronic Dev Team.

We reported just last week that iPhone 4S users wouldn’t have long to wait for an untethered jailbreak. And it looks like pod2g’s prediction was right – a jailbreak for the iPhone 4S is practically here.

The jailbreak isn’t live yet but there is a video showing off the untethered jailbreak on an iPhone 4S. All the handset’s features, including Siri, appear to work fine and, because it’s untethered, there’s no need to have your PC around for when you reboot the handset.

‘The hack was done by Chronic Dev Team member DHowett,’ reports BGR, ‘with Pod2g indicating a release is coming soon.’

The Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team joined forces with the intent to crack iOS5 and bring an untethered jailbreak solution to the iPhone 4S. Well it looks like they’ve achieved their collective goal – now all we need is the software to get a formal release.

Here is the video of the jailbreak in all its glory:
